The South Devon Youth Jazz project is an exciting new venture aimed at providing a pathway for the emerging musician into the world of jazz and improvisation.
As a result of a collaboration between jazz musicians, educations and funding partners, its aim is to provide the young musicians of South Devon with an opportunity to play jazz together in a fun and encouraging environment.
Based in Newton Abbot, the project will be based around fortnightly workshops and termly masterclasses with top jazz educators.
There is no strict minimum standard, but we would estimate that students need to be able to read music to a reasonable extent and be approximately a Grade 2 technical standard on their instrument (but no need to have taken exams).
Our first session is to be led by Nick Malcolm, jazz trumpet teacher at Wells Cathedral School and has been described as “…A supremely gifted musician…A trumpet player for the 21st Century…Wow!”
We look forward to seeing you at one of our session!
